this painting was a complete exercise in freedom.
BUT MOSTLY IN FUN. i used weirdo mind exploration, bold bright colors, thick strokes, lean lines, full shadows, reckless layers, and playful abandon, and manoman did i have a great time.
BASICALLY ive realized quite recently (like last night talking to someone else's great dad in my studio 😊) that ive been so happy lately, in provincetown, and so grateful to find myself newly within the friendship and family folds of this creative, kind, and vibrant community- that it seems ive finally been able to safely (and really unexpectedly) revisit some real important joys i had flying as a kid, with my truly amazing pilot/historian/poet father, who was a wildly beautiful man- who ive missed so very much over the years that i almost couldnt even think about any of it- if that could even be possible?
OH BUT NOW ITS ON! bc now i can!
and holyholy what a gift. its been remarkably joyful and liberating. ive been finding real immense joy in painting all kinds of imaginary flights and trips and daredevil adventures that we might take. some are in versions of his yellow super cub plane, and others i invent. oh the places we would go, indeed!
but here's the thing... WE ARE GOING.
bc when i paint these planes- im no longer concerned with the limitations of time and space- bc apparently color and kindness and action are real tickets for freedom. for reverence. for time travel.
ok then- as always- thanks for reading!
